About me

We learn about being human from the moment we are conceived: in an idea or in our mother's belly. And we all come from a mother. We affect and are affected. All of us. It's in those first sensations that many of our mechanisms for absorbing and responding to the world are imprinted.

Is life an eternal journey home, bringing all our dual and paradoxical pieces with us? I'm interested in what is transversal to life. I'm interested in the fabric that unites us as human beings, beyond cultural, social and personal differences.
I'm interested in reconciling with the feeling of primordial duality.

BACKGROUND

The Portuguese creator with Indian origins has grown up with a creative urgency - to find the way back home. From an early age, various coordinates have driven her in a search in which art has been the seamstress of her stories.

Graduated in Social and Cultural Communication (Catholic University of Portugal) and Master in Theatre and Community (ESTC). Integrative Therapist, student of Somatic Psychotherapy (CPSB) and Coach certified by ICF. Postgraduate in Applied Expressive Techniques: Health, Organizations and Community (ISLA) and in Communication Sciences from the Catholic University of Lisbon. Specialized in Meisner Technique (John Frey) and Clown Technique (Caroline Dream, Mick Barnfather).

Born in Lisbon, she is the granddaughter of Ana Rosa Duarte, from Tomar, and Nandu Bai, from Diú, India. Little did these two women, thousands of kilometers apart on two different continents, imagine that they would become grandmothers to the same granddaughter. Chandi began her artistic career training as an actress. She developed a professional career as a performer, storyteller and facilitator of creative research labs, crossing personal development and the performing arts. In recent years, the artist has explored themes such as IDENTITY, MEMORY and TERRITORY as a singer-songwriter.

The artist published her first book O Grito da Bananeira in 2018 and uses the coordinates ‘Affection, Art and Nature’ in her professional career and personal background to humanize the projects, services and institutions she works with.

She met and fell in love with the ‘Musicians Without Borders’ method and had the opportunity to learn this method, certifying herself as a Community Music Leader in 2017.

Her musical and singing training has ranged from jazz to bossa nova and world music. Her career has included the Hot Club, and also Zygmunt Molik's method through the workshops she did with Jorge Parente. Her learning has also been enhanced by sharing and meeting other renowned masters such as Ana Luiza (Brazil), Fernando Barba (Brazil), Ghatam Vaidyanathan Suresh (India), Ratna Sarkar (India), Hilde Kappes (Germany), João Charepe (Portugal) and João Paulo Reya (Portugal).
